Dropbox Begins Limiting Free Users to Three Devices on a Single Account

The Verge reports popular cloud storage service Dropbox has begun allowing users with free storage accounts to only connect up to three device to their account at one time. The company announced the new policy on its website.

Basic users have a three device limit as of March 2019.

Plus and Professional users can link unlimited devices.

Business users can link unlimited devices, but Advanced and Enterprise Dropbox Business admins can limit the number of devices that their teams can link.

Users that had more than three devices linked to their account before March 2019 will be grandfathered in and will be allowed to keep those devices connected. However, adding new devices to the account will not be allowed. If you want to add more devices, you’ll need to start paying.

Any type of compatible device counts toward the three device limit, including computers, tablets, and smartphones.

The move by Dropbox to limit free customers’ access is a familiar one, as we’ve seen this numerous times in the past where a company places restrictions on their free subscribers in an attempt to push them toward a paid subscription.

If you decide to sign up for a Dropbox plan that allows more than three devices, be advised that the cloud storage firm offers a $9.99-per-month Plus subscription plan that includes 1TB of storage, or the $19.99-per-month Professional plan that includes 2TB of storage.
