Apple Could Debut ‘Netflix for Games’ Subscription Service at Monday’s Event

A “Netflix for Games subscription service that Apple has reportedly been working on may be unveiled at Monday’s Apple media event.

Bloomberg:

Apple is also working on a premium games subscription for its App Store and discussing it with potential partners, according to people with knowledge of the plans. This service won’t take on new cloud-based streaming offerings like Google Stadia. Instead, it will focus on iPhones and iPads and bundle together paid games from different developers that consumers can access for a monthly fee. Cheddar previously reported that Apple was working on a gaming-related subscription service.

The Cupertino company would collect the monthly subscription fees, then divvy up the revenue to developers, depending on the time users spend playing their games. Popular paid titles would be included, and the company would exclude from the service any free-to-download games that generate revenue via in-app purchases.

Bloomberg says the new “Netflix for Games” subscription service could be unveiled as soon as Monday, or could debut at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
