Another report claims the 2019 iPhones will boast a square back camera bump with triple lenses set in close proximity to each other. The report cites sources in the Chinese supply chain.
Chinese suppliers reportedly confirmed to Macotakara on Friday the iPhones would use the square camera bump. It is suggested the configuration could be similar to the one used by Huawei’s Mate 20, which evenly spaces the three lenses and flash into separate quadrants, in a more symmetrical layout.
Earlier this year, well-known leak source OnLeaks posted a render of a triple-lens iPhone, showing an iPhone with a square camera bump containing three lenses and a flash. That render showed an uneven spacing for the lenses.
The source also advised original accessories for the next generation of iPhone are under development, with initial versions featuring a hole on the back side for the enlarged camera bump.
The 2019 iPhones are said to be similar in size to the 2018 iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.
There hasn’t been much speculation as to what Apple’s plans are for a third camera sensor, although it could be used for depth mapping, which would be useful for augmented reality applications.
