New iPad Mini 5 to Look the Same as iPad mini 4, Targeted at Low-Price Market

Recent reports indicate the much-rumored iPad mini 5 will be a rather low-key update. The new iPad mini model will look almost identical to the iPad mini 4.

Macotakara, who sources accessory manufacturers, says the new iPad mini 4 will keep the Lightning connector, and the 3.5mm headphone jack. The tablets dimensions will not substantially change, and will feature the same size bezels. The major change in the new mini will consist of moving the rear microphone to the center, much like the sixth-generation 9.7-inch iPad.

Macotakara’s sources expect a chip upgrade to an A10, although they aren’t sure if it’s the normal version or the more powerful A10X variant used in the 2017 iPad Pro.

This matches Ming-Chi Kuo’s comments over the weekend that indicated the iPad mini 5 update would merely consist of a spec bump.

Onleaks has tweeted that he has recently obtained a CAD leak of the iPad mini 5 and confirms there are no changes other than the rear microphone relocation.

The iPad mini 4 hit shelves almost four years ago, is still available in a single 128GB with A8 configuration for $399. While most expectations are the new mini will feature a lower price, no one is sure what the price will be.
