Google: A Bug Caused Apple Music to Make an Appearance in Google Home App

Sadly, expectations that Apple Music would soon be available on Google Home devices have been dashed. The service’s brief appearance earlier this week was apparently due to a software bug, a Google spokesperson told Bloomberg.

“Apple Music is currently only available for Google Assistant users on mobile phones. We have nothing to announce regarding updates to Google Home,” the spokesman said.

While Apple Music can be controlled by the Google Assistant on the iPhone, it does not work through Google Home devices. A software bug caused the option for controlling Apple’s music service on Google home speakers to appear in the app in the wrong area of the menus.

It is still possible that Apple’s streaming music service will still someday be available on Google Home smart speakers, but that time is not now.

The addition of the feature would bring Google Home devices on par with Amazon’s lineup of Echo speakers. Apple Music became available on Amazon’s Alexa-powered lineup of speakers in December.

Expansion to Google Home speakers would better allow Apple’s streaming music service to compete with other services, many of which are already available on Google Home devices, including Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music, and others.
