Apple’s Red iPhone XS and XS Max Rumored to Launch in China This Month, Sans PRODUCT(RED) Branding

A red model of Apple’s iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max could launch later this month, according to a social media rumor posted on Weibo

MacRumors:

Weibo post spotted by iPhoneHacks.com claims Apple will launch the red color models by the end of this month, in a bid to boost struggling iPhone sales in the region.

The leaker, who claims to have received the tip from sources in Apple’s supply chain, says that Apple will call the model “China Red,” and not the PRODUCT(RED) branding that the company typically associates with the color.

While Apple already sells a (PRODUCT)RED model of its iPhone XR, the color isn’t available when buying the iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max.

Apple has previously offered the red color in China for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 lineups, branding them as red, instead of using the (PRODUCT)RED branding.

While Apple has sold (PRODUCT)RED devices and accessories for nearly 13 years. For each product sold, a portion of the sales goes to the (RED) Global Fund to be used in the fight against AIDS.

Unfortunately, sex remains a controversial subject in China, and AIDS and HIV is looked upon as one of the consequences of contact with Western cultures.

While the red option in China lacks the (PRODUCT)RED designation, Apple CEO Tim Cook has assured that the company makes a donation to the Global Fund for every special edition red iPhone sold in every country, with or without the branding.

If this rumor proves to be correct, it could signal the release of the red iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in other parts of the world. It is a rumor, so grab your salt-free seasoning shakers, but stay tuned.
