There was both good news and bad news for Nintendo gaming fans on the iOS platform today. First, the bad news: the release of Mario Kart Tour for iOS would be delayed until summer. Then came the good news, The Japanese game publisher announced it will release Dr. Mario World for iOS and Android sometime this summer.
Nintendo will partner with LINE, a Tokyo-based mobile development firm, for the development of Dr. Mario World on both mobile platforms.
Nintendo and LINE will co-develop and jointly operate a new action puzzle game featuring Dr. Mario titled Dr. Mario World to be released by Nintendo. Dr. Mario World is targeting an early summer 2019 global release, including in Japan and the United States.
Together with Nintendo and LINE, NHN Entertainment, which has released and operated various online and mobile games, will take part in the development and operation of Dr. Mario World.
Nintendo will make money with Dr. Mario World in its usual manner, making the game free to download and charging for in-app purchases. Details as to what the gameplay would be like in the game were not immediately available.
The original Dr. Mario game was a falling block puzzle game, in which the player’s objective was to destroy viruses by using colored capsules that are tossed into the field by Mario, who assumed the role of a doctor. Think Tetris or Columns, and you have an idea of the gameplay.
