New Renderings Allegedly Show 2019 iPhone With Triple Lens Rear Camera Design

Sure, we’ve barely begun 2019, but let’s take a look at a possible leak of the 2019 iPhone’s camera design. Phone leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer has worked with tech site Digit to release some new renderings that are said to be of the next-generation 2019 iPhone, which will likely debut 9 months from now in September.

The renderings feature a large, square section on the back of the device, housing three lenses set up in a triangular configuration. The section also features a flash and a microphone.

MacRumors:

Given the extremely odd appearance, we’d ordinarily dismiss such renderings out of hand unless additional evidence surfaced, but Hemmerstoffer has a long track record of sourcing information from the supply chains of Apple and other phone manufacturers. He does, however, acknowledge that this is a “freakingly early leak” and plans may change before the phone design is finalized.

The rendering jibes with previous rumors indicating the 2019 flagship iPhone would feature a triple lensed camera on the back face of the device. However, there are multiple theories as to the purpose of the third lens.

While some have indicated Apple is working on “time-of-flight” depth sensing to improve augmented reality features of the device, industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo doesn’t believe the new technology will be ready for the 2019 models. Other possible uses for a third camera lens could be improved low-light performance, or improved optical zoom capabilities.

Digit says that Tipster @IceUniverse has also confirmed the leaked renders are correct.

Please note that this is definitely an early look at a design for the upcoming iPhone and could, and likely will, undergo changes in the design before its debut this fall.
