iOS 12 Running on 78% of All Devices Made in Last Four Years

It’s been three and a half months since the launch of iOS 12 mobile operating system, and now comes word that the latest Apple mobile OS is now running on 78% of all iOS devices released in the last four years.

Apple shared the information on its App Store support page for developers. Apple has begun presenting iOS installation stats in two ways, providing installation rate numbers for both recently released devices and older devices.

Apple says 78% of all devices released during the last four years are running iOS 12, while 75% of all iOS devices are running Apple’s latest and greatest mobile OS. 17% of devices continue to run iOS 11, and 5% of all devices released in the last four years are running an earlier version if iOS.

Those iOS 12 installation numbers have grown just a few percentage points since the last installation numbers were released back on December 4. At that time, iOS 12 was installed on 70% of all devices and 72% of recent devices.

iOS 12 adoption rates are growing faster than iOS 11 rates were over the same timeframe. As of January 25, 2018, iOS 11 was installed on just 65% of active iOS devices. iOS 11 was plagued by a number of bugs over its lifetime, an issue that likely contributed to the slower adoption rates.
