Apple Targets Owners of Older iPhones With Email Ad for iPhone XR

As sales of Apple’s iPhone XR are reportedly lower than expected, the Cupertino device maker continues to aggressively market the handset. Now comes a report that the firm is sending customized emails to the owners of older iPhone models.

The emails provide a trade-in value for the older device, and a comparison table, putting the old model up against a shiny new iPhone XR.

An email sent to an iPhone 6 Plus user, for example, advertises Apple’s limited-time $200 trade-in offer for that device towards the purchase of an iPhone XR in the United States. The email also states that the iPhone XR is up to three times faster than the iPhone 6 Plus and compares other features.

While Apple is believed to have been sending out similar emails since late last year, today saw several mentions of the email campaign on both Twitter and Reddit, indicating Apple may be stepping up the campaign a bit by sending out additional offers.

Apple recently downgraded their first fiscal quarter 2019 revenue prediction by $9 billion, a move it attributed to fewer iPhone upgrades than anticipated, particularly in the Chinese region. Apple is apparently working had to promote its discount and trade-in offers in an effort to avoid a similar downgrade in the second quarter.
