Apple iPhone Assembly Partner Pegatron Planning to Expand Production to India, Indonesia, and Vietnam

We reported in late December that Apple iPhone assembly partner Foxconn would be moving some of its iPhone production from China to India. Now comes word that another of Apple’s iPhone production partners, Pegatron, will also be moving some of its production to India, along with Indonesia and Vietnam.

9to5Mac:

Currently, Pegatron accounts for about 30 percent of Apple’s assembly orders. The company thus far has relied almost entirely on China, but it now intends to change that with its expansion to Indonesia, Vietnam, and India.

Pegatron president SJ Liao said the company will announce more details soon regarding the expansion outside of China. Liao added that the rate of expansion will depend on the ongoing trade war between China and the United States.

While Pegatron made no direct mention of Apple in its announcement, Apple is a major client of Pegatron, and its hard to ignore the timing of this announcement. Apple has been looking at moving portions of its device assembly form China to India. This is both due to the U.S. – China trade war and the need to expand to large markets such as India.
