Alleged ‘iPad mini 5’ Case Photo Leak Shows Oblong Camera Cutout With Room for Flash

You may recall a report from last week that Apple was preparing a new “iPad mini 5,” which could hit shelves in early 2019. Today comes the first of supposed leaks showing an alleged case for the upcoming smaller tablet.

9to5Mac:

Slasheaks shared on Twitter what looks like a case for the new iPad mini 5, or whatever Apple names the iPad mini 4 successor.

Notably, there are a few take aways if this ends up being a legitimate case for the upcoming iPad mini refresh. First, there’s an oblong camera cutout that matches up with the new iPad Pro camera configuration. This could mean the possibility of the iPad mini 5 getting a flash to go along with its camera. The rear microphone is moved to the center of the device.

The photo also shows what could be an opening for a headphone jack in the cases top left corner (when viewing from the front.) A cutout in the middle of the device indicates space that could possibly allow access to a Smart Connector.

The iPad mini, the smallest iPad in Apple’s lineup, hasn’t been updated since September 2015. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed in October that Apple was working on a new version of the mini, which would include an upgraded processor and lower-cost display. He claimed the new device would be launched in 2018 or early in 2019.

However, DigiTimes made a claim earlier in the year that Apple would not introduce a new version of the iPad mini, and even claimed Apple has “no further plan” for its smallest tablet.

The China Times report also says Apple will replace its current 9.7-inch entry-level iPad with a similarly-priced model featuring a 10-inch display and a narrower bezel. Apple is said to be launching two versions of the new iPad, in an effort to boost sales growth. No exact timeframe was mentioned for a launch of the new iPad models.

SO, as usual, take reports like these with a grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning. (may we recommend Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb? It’s quite delightful.)
