Independent developer Akshay Kapoor has released Magic Photos – AR 1.4, his augmented reality photo animation app for iOS devices. The app offers Harry Potter-like animation effects for printed photos.
The app makes use of the iOS 12 Augmented Reality feature. Users record a short video, print a frame from the video, and then point their iPhone at the photos to playback the video inside the frame of the photo.
Harry Potter fans will recall the magic photos seen in the popular movie series, Unlike the still photos “Muggles” are stuck with, photos in the Harry Potter movies come to life. Now, by using an iPhone running iOS 12, anyone can create motion-filled Magic Photos with a few taps of their finger.
Unlike some other photo animation solutions, Magic Photos doesn’t require the purchase of an expensive pocket printer and it’s pricey consumables. Photos can be printed on plain paper, in any size.

I had the chance to use the app during the Thanksgiving weekend, and showed my guests how the app worked. Everyone that saw the app was dazzled by the effects, immediately asking where they could get it.
Magic Photos – AR 1.4 is just $0.99 and is available for the iPhone and iPad in the App Store in the Photo and Video category. [GET IT HERE]
