Apple may not have mentioned new AirPods at their September or October events, but that doesn’t mean new models aren’t on the way.
The next-gen of Apple AirPods, the premium truly wireless Bluetooth earphones have passed through the mandatory Bluetooth SIG certification. They may have already received the go-ahead from the certifying agency. Moreover, the new refreshed and updated AirPods could embed multiple health monitoring sensors.
The certification mentions information about the new wireless earpods, including updated Bluetooth protocols and new health sensing technologies.
The two new listing sport model numbers A2031 and A2032, and will include a Bluetooth 5.0 update. The filing mentions AirPods by name, confirming new models are on the way, even if we’re not exactly sure when they’ll hit shelves.
Apple is said to be working on new health tracking and heart rate recording data features. Also this week, renewed trademark filings from Hong Kong and Europe mention the following:
“CLASS 10: GENERAL WELLNESS INSTRUMENTS, NAMELY, HEALTH, FITNESS, EXERCISE, AND WELLNESS SENSORS, MONITORS, SPEAKERS AND DISPLAYS FOR MEASURING, DISPLAYING, TRACKING, REPORTING, MONITORING, STORING, AND TRANSMITTING BIOMETRIC DATA, HEART RATE, BODY MOVEMENT, AND CALORIES BURNED.”
The Bluetooth 5.0 specification extends the range of connections, and can also include improved battery life.
