The 2018 iPhones have been available since September, so we are way overdue for predictions and rumors about the 2019 iPhone lineup, right?
In a research note to investors (via MacRumors), Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the 2019 iPhone lineup will offer the same IP68-rated water resistance as this year’s iPhone XS and iPhone Xs Max models. Both devices are rated for water resistance at a depth of two meters for up to 30 minutes.
Kuo said that “the new iPhone waterproof specifications will remain unchanged next year,” according to a translated version of the report.
IP68 is effectively the highest rating iPhones can achieve under the IP code standard. IP codes refer to the protect a device offers against dust and liquid. The “6” in the rating indicates the devices are dustproof, and the “8” represents the highest level of water resistance.
