“Boastful leaker” Steve Hemmerstoffer shared renders on Monday from tech blog MySmartPrice, that based on leaked CAD images of what is said to be Apple’s upcoming redesigned iPad Pro.
The renders show the expected thinner bezels, lack of a Home button, and edge-to-edge design of the much-rumored new iPad Pro’s design, as well as a device that shows an angular chassis sporting iPhone 4-style chamfered edges in place of the usual rounded chassis of current designs.
The device also appears to have iPhone-like antenna lines along the top and bottom of the chassis, in place of the single continuous lines found on current models.
The renders lack a headphone jack, and sport two rows of speaker vents on either side of the Lightning port, and two microphone ports that are located above the camera in the bezel.
The Smart Connector is positioned on the back of the device, above the Lightning port, not on the side of the device as in current iPad Pro models. This jibes with previously leaked images and case designs.
Previous rumors have indicated the iPad Pro’s Face ID might not be able to unlock the device while in Landscape mode, leading to the need for the new location of the Smart Connector. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has an excellent track record in these things, has said horizontal Face ID support will be included in the new iPad Pro models.
As usual in “leaks” like this, it should be taken with a grain of your favorite heart-smart seasoning. While no new iPad Pro models have been confirmed, we may see new models make their debut at Apple’s iPhone media event, scheduled for September 12. Stay tuned.
