Early Speed Tests Show iPhone XS LTE Speeds up to 266% Faster Than iPhone X

Results of the first iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max LTE speed tests are beginning to roll in, and early results are showing the new devices will provide a major improvement in LTE speeds over last year’s iPhone X.

According to results from SpeedSmart.net, AT&T provides the biggest speed increase to its users, with average download speeds of 72.24Mbps. That compares to average iPhone X speeds of 27.67Mbps.

Verizon ranked in at second, with average downloads of 62.20Mbps, up from 26.08Mbps. T-Mobile measured in as a close third with 59.92Mbps on the iPhone XS, compared with 29.82Mbps on the iPhone X. No word on Sprint’s speeds, it’s possible they may still be waiting for the tests to finish. (Where’s the SARCASM tag on this thing?)

AppleInsider notes the new handsets show a 233% average increase in download speeds across all three wireless networks.

Upload speeds showed only a small bump, as the iPhone XS on T-Mobile showed 19.35Mbps upload speeds, up from the 12.22Mbps seen on iPhone X. Verizon and AT&T measured in at 16.10Mbps and 14.88Mbps upload speeds, respectively, up from 10.92Mbps and 10.28Mbps.

The tests were made using the SpeedSmart Speed Test app on iPhone X, XS, XS Max between Sept. 12 and 16. While your mileage may vary, the numbers indicate iPhone XS and XS Max users can expect a nice bump in their download speeds while connected to their favorite networks.

The improved speeds for Apple’s new handsets come courtesy of their new Gigabit-class LTE with 4×4 MIMO technology and LAA.
