Apple today shared details of upcoming new emoji that are scheduled to appear in iOS later this year as part of Unicode 11. The announcement is in celebration of World Emoji Day on July 17.
“More than 70 new emoji characters are coming to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac later this year in a free software update. The new emoji designs, created based on approved characters in Unicode 11.0, include even more hair options to better represent people with red hair, gray hair and curly hair, a new emoji for bald people, and new smiley faces that bring more expression to Messages with a cold face, party face, pleading face and a face with hearts.”
Also coming to the emoji keyboard are animal characters, including a kangaroo, peacock, parrot and lobster. New food emoji include mango, lettuce, cupcake, moon cake and other popular items.
Also on the way are characters across sports, symbols, a new superhero emoji, a softball, nazar amulet, and infinity symbol.
A full list of the emoji included in Unicode 11 is available on the Emojipedia site.
When released, the new emoji will be available on iOS, macOS, and watchOS devices. Apple hasn’t officially announced the release date for the new emoji, but they’re likely to appear around the time the Cupertino firm releases the new versions of its popular operating systems, this fall.
