DC Entertainment Announces DC Universe – Streaming Superhero TV Shows, Movies, Comics, More for Apple TV, iOS Devices

DC Entertainment has shared more information about DC Universe, its upcoming streaming service, which will offer streaming of DC superhero themed content including TV shows, movies, and other content.

The DC Universe service is billed as a “first-of-its-kind digital subscription” that caters for fans of the company’s content. Rather than limiting the service to one type of media, such as video, the subscription aims to offer a curated selection of other items that DC believes fans will enjoy. 

At its core, the subscription will provide access to classic TV series and films, along with original live-action and animated series. Starting in 2019 and developed with Warner Bros., the exclusive programming includes the live-action “Titans,” a gritty reimagining of the animated “Teen Titans” franchise, as well as “Swamp Thing,” “Doom Patrol,” “Young Justice: Outsiders,” and “Harley Quinn.”

The service will also make a selection of DC superhero movie available for streaming for limited period of time, including the four original Superman movies, animated movies featuring the Justice League, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman. Also available will b the first two seasons of “Batman: The Animated Series,” and the original “Wonder Woman” series, which will be seen in HD for the first time.

The service will also offer comics which will be accessible via a dedicated reader app for smartphones tables, and set-top boxes. Thousands of DC comics issues will be available for reading, spanning decades, and including notable issues of each characters, such as the first appearances of Superman and Batman.

Members will also be able to create and share personalized lists of favorite heroes and villain, and participate in forums with other fans. In addition, an extensive DC encyclopedia, new updates, interviews and other content will be available.

The DC Universe app will be available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices at launch, along with other mobile and streaming platforms. The service will initially launch in the United States, and no pricing has yet been announced. DC will open up the service in a beta format sometime in August, those interested in participating can register beforehand.
