Tim Cook on Apple Wearables Division: ‘Size of a Fortune 300 Company’

During Tuesday’s Q2 2018 conference call, Apple CEO Time Cook remarked that the company’s wearables division, made up of AirPods, the Apple Watch, and Beats headphones, is the size of a Fortune 300 company. The division saw its revenue climb 50% year-over-year in the March quarter.

“Millions of customers are using Apple Watch to stay active, healthy, and connected and they have made it the top selling watch in the world.” said Cook.

Apple doesn’t break out “wearables” revenue, instead it includes it as part of the “Other” category’s revenue, which also includes products like the Apple TV and the HomePod. Revenue for that category in Q2 2018 was $3.95 billion compared to $2.9 billion a year ago.

To get an idea of how much the wearables division bring in, the 300th company ranked on the Fortune 500 index in 2017, Alcoa, posted revenue of $9.3 billion.

Apple on Tuesday announced financial results for the fiscal 2018 second quarter ended March 31, 2018. The Cupertino company posted quarterly revenue of $61.1 billion, an increase of 16% from the year-ago quarter. Its quarterly earnings per diluted share of $2.73, up 30%.
