A post by Daring Fireball’s John Gruber indicates an iOS 11 App Store-like redesign could be on its way for the Mac App Store.
The new iOS 11 App Store really is run like an editorial-driven publication. They write articles and features, and as Vinh rightly celebrates here, commission great custom artwork. One of the things I’m most looking forward to next month at WWDC is seeing this sort of treatment on the Mac App Store, too.
Apple debuted a completely redesigned App Store last year alongside the debut of iOS 11. The new App Store has a heavy focus on human curation, and has reportedly had a dramatically favorable effect on app discovery and download rates.
As noted by 9to5Mac, the well-connected Gruber has a history of “casual comments” like the one above, that is his signature method of “leaking” new features.
While the iOS App Store has performed well, especially after the revamp, the Mac App Store has languished. A large number of developers have pulled their apps from the Mac App Store due to a lack of features and accompanying lack of user interest.
