Facebook Has Suspended 200 Apps Over Possible Misuse of User Data

Facebook announced on Monday that it has suspended 200 apps for possible misuse of personal user data. The social network has become a bit sensitive over such things in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

MSN:

Facebook said in a blog post Monday that it has investigated thousands of apps after it emerged that Cambridge Analytica had harvested information on about 87 million users without their knowledge.

It did not name the apps that have been suspended but said they would be subject to a more thorough investigation into how they handle user data.

An app was developed by University of Cambridge psychology professor Aleksandr Kogan that used Facebook to collect data not only on Facebook users that had taken the “test,” but also on friends and content they had “liked” while using the social network. Kogan provided that data to Cambridge Analytica, in a breach of Facebook’s rules.

Monday’s post said the company will ban any apps found to have misused data and would notify users about the bans and make it possible for them to check whether their data was misused.
