Apple Releases iOS 11.3.1 Update – Contains Fix For Third-Party Display Repair Issue

Apple today released iOS 11.3.1 to the public. The update includes security fixes and a fix for a bug that caused touch functionality issues on iPhone 8 devices that had been repaired by third-party repair shops using aftermarket parts.

From Apple’s release notes:

iOS 11.3.1 improves the security of your iPhone or iPad and addresses an issue where touch input was unresponsive on some iPhone 8 devices because they were serviced with non-genuine replacement displays.

Note: Non-genuine replacement displays may have compromised visual quality and may fail to work correctly. Apple-certified screen repairs are performed by trusted experts who use genuine Apple parts. See support.apple.com for more information.

The iOS 11.3.1 update can be downloaded on all compatible devices by going into the Settings app and tapping “General” -> “Software Update.” The update is free. (Of course.)

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus repair issue was unearthed following the release of iOS 11.3. iPhone users that had their device’s display repaired by an unauthorized service provider using third-party parts found their iPhone’s touchscreen functionality was disabled.
