Survey Says iPhone Owners Didn’t Upgrade to iPhone X Due to Price, Lack of Exciting Features

A survey conducted by Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson indicates that iPhone users who haven’t upgraded to the iPhone X didn’t purchase Apple’s latest flagship handset due to its high price and a lack of compelling features.

The survey results, shared byPhilip Elmer-DeWitt on Monday, asked 1,500 iPhone owners that didn’t upgrade to the iPhone X why they didn’t buy the new device.

The majority of respondents (44%) indicate they didn’t upgrade because their iPhone works fine, which suggests they did not feel the device’s new features weren’t compelling enough to upgrade.

31% of those replying to the survey said they didn’t upgrade because the iPhone X, which started at $999 was too expensive. 8% said the new handset’s screen wasn’t large enough, while 17% opted for the ever-popular “haven’t upgraded for another reason” reply.

Piper Jaffray says the upcoming 2018 iPhone models will address most of these issues. Apple is rumored to be preparing three models for the 1018 model year. One iPhone will reportedly boast a 5.8-inch OLED display, another will feature a 6.5-inch OLED display, and a third, lower-priced model will feature a 6.1-inch LCD display.

The firm believes Apple will sell 233.8M iPhones in fiscal 2019.
