Mazda has finally announced plans to bring the Apple CarPlay infotainment system to its vehicles in the 2018 and 2019 model years. The announcement was made at the New York International Auto Show.
Mazda says the 2018 Mazda6 will be the first model to support CarPlay in the United States, starting later this summer. The system will be available as an upgrade to all 2018 Mazda6 variants that are at the Touring trim level or higher.
Furthermore, Mazda says that all customers who already own a 2018 Mazda6 when CarPlay is made available this summer will have the option to retroactively add the feature to their vehicle.
CarPlay will be standard on Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trim levels of the Mazda6, The Sport trim level will not include CarPlay.
In addition, a press release on Mazda’s Canadian website says CarPlay will also be available on the 2019 CX-9. This compatibility was not announced by Mazda during its press event at the Auto Show, so it is currently unknown whether CarPlay will be available in CX-9 vehicles outside of Canada.
Mazda also announced both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available as a Genuine Mazda Accessory retrofit for MAZDA CONNECT systems starting this fall.
