During Apple’s education media event on Tuesday, they unveiled two accessories for the new 9.7-inch iPad from Logitech, a $49 Crayon Stylus and a $99 Rugged Combo 2 iPad Keyboard Case.
The Logitech Crayon Stylus operates similar to the Apple Pencil, but is designed for kids. The Logitech website says the Crayon has been designed for, and is compatible with, the new 9.7-inch 6th-generation iPad.
iMore‘s Serenity Caldwell says she’s been told the Crayon uses the same technology as the Apple Pencil, with the same latency, tilt, and palm rejection features. The Logitech stylus lacks the pressure sensitivity of the Apple Pencil.
The Crayon connects with the iPad with the push of a button, and does not connect via Bluetooth. It can be used for up to 8 hours before needing to be charged via an included Lightning port. The Crayon works with apps that offer Apple Pencil support.
The Crayon offers a kid-friendly design that prevents the stylus form rolling off a desk, and a pry-resistant smart tip that requires a special tool to replace. The rubber cover or the Lightning port is tethered to the Crayon stylus to prevent it from getting lost.
The Crayon will not be available to the general public, but will instead availability will be limited to teachers. The Crayon will be available for $49 starting this summer.
Also announced is the Logitech Rugged Combo 2 keyboard case for the new iPad. The new keyboard case is also exclusive to the education market, and is spill-resistant, offering silent, pry-resistant keycaps.
The new case boasts a pass-through Lightning connector that allows simultaneous charging of the keyboard and the iPad. The case will go on sale later this year and will carry a cost of $99.
