Apple CEO Tim Cook Says Company’s ‘Wearables’ Business is Nearly the Size of a Fortune 300 Company

Apple CEO Tim Cook says revenue from the company’s “wearables” business, which includes the Apple Watch, AirPods, and Beats headphones revenue is close to being on the level of a Fortune 300 company. Cook made the remarks during Tuesday’s shareholders meeting.

AppleInsider:

As usual, Cook failed to provide specific sales figures for any of Apple’s wearable line, according to coverage of the event from AppleInsider’s Dan Dilger.

“I’m not a big fan of that word,” Cook said, referring to the term “wearables.”

Whatever Cook wants to call it, sales of Apple Watch, AirPods and Beats are growing. Thought to be leading the charge, at least in terms of revenue, is the premium priced Apple Watch.

Although Apple was a late entrant into the smartwatch space, the Cupertino firm had dominated the industry since the 2015 debut of the original Apple Watch. Partially due to strong demand for the Apple Watch Series 3, Apple saw its best quarter ever in the first fiscal quarter of 2018.

During that same period, market analyst Canalys says Apple shipped more Watch units than the total shipped by the entire Swiss watch industry.

AirPods also continued to be a hot seller, contributing to Apple’s great numbers in the “wearables” portion of its business.
