Vivaldi Web Browser for macOS Gains Vertical Reader Mode, Markdown Support for Notes, More

Vivaldi has announced an update to their web browser for macOS. Version 1.14 brings a vertical reader mode, Markdown support for Notes, rearrangeable Web Panels, and the ability to reorder search engines.

With Vivaldi’s Vertical Reader view, users can access content in a clutter-free reading environment. Users can change the font, adjust the line height, column width and switch to dark or light background while in the Reader View.

Users of Chinese (simplified and traditional), Japanese and Korean languages can now read text in their languages with no distracting page elements.

The update also adds Markdown support for Notes, allowing users to add formatting like headers, bolding and bulleted lists to their notes while surfing the web. The feature allows users to organize notes, compose emails, to-do lists and more. This option can also be used to preview simple HTML.

A signature feature of Vivaldi, Web Panels, received a large update, allowing individual websites to be added to the browser’s side panels to browse alongside the main browser window. Users can adjust widths for different web panels.

The browser’s search engine features also received some love, now allowing users to set their default search engine or select from the various alternatives. A new search engine can be added with just a right-click of the mouse.

Vivaldi is a freeware, cross-platform web browser developed by Vivaldi Technologies, a company founded by Opera Software co-founder and former CEO Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner and Tatsuki Tomita. The browser aims to revive popular features of Opera 12.

The browser is free, and is available for the Mac from the Vivaldi website.
