Hulu Drops Price of ‘No Commercials’ Streaming Plans Purchased via iOS or Apple TV Devices

If you purchased your Hulu “No Commercial” streaming plan via an iOS or Apple TV device, you’ve been paying $13.99 per month, a $2 premium over the usual cost of the plan. This week, Hulu announced it is dropping that $13.99 per month fee down to $11.99, bringing the iTunes-related billing cost down to the same price paid by other users.

MacRumors:

Hulu informed subscribers about the change through emails that went out yesterday. Beyond the emails, Hulu offered no explanation for the sudden price drop, which was originally in place because of the cut Apple takes from all App Store purchases, including subscriptions.

The price cut is likely due to changes Apple made in the cut it takes of all in-app transactions. Prior to 2016, the Cupertino firm wet its beak to the tune of 30% of all in-app subscription fees. Apple changed its cut of the action to 15% of the fees.

Hulu’s Limited Commercial plan is still priced at $7.99 on Apple devices, which is the same price as is shown on the Hulu website. However, Hulu is offering a promotion dropping the price of the plan to $5.99 per month.
