Supermarket chain Safeway says it is in the process of rolling out the Apple Pay contactless payments solution to checkouts at their 912 stores in the United States.
The grocery store chain shared the news via its Twitter account on Sunday, by way of a response to a customer inquiry via the short messaging service.
Hi, thanks for asking. We are in the process of rolling it out through the month of October. Have a great day.

Safeway has 912 locations in the United States, with a large amount of those concentrated along the country’s west coast, including location sin California, Oregon, and Washington state.
While tweets like these can sometimes be posted by misinformed customer service reps running a company’s Twitter account, a Reddit user on Sunday confirmed his local Safeway store had just enabled contactless payments. He says he tried Apple Pay while checking out, and it worked.
Safeway has yet to confirm the Twitter announcement, or announce participating locations. The supermarket chain joins grocery store chain ALDI as recent additions to the list of merchants that accept Apple’s contactless payments solution at checkout. ALDI has nearly 1,700 locations in the U.S.
Other grocery chains in the U.S. now accepting Apple Pay include Giant Food, Wegmans, BI-LO, Food Lion, Save Mart, Shop ‘n Save, Trader Joe’s, Winn-Dixie, Whole Foods Market, and United Supermarkets.
