Apple has released a support document that lists several car manufacturers that offer built-in Qi wireless chargers that are compatible with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, (and iPhone X).
Apple says Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, PSA, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo all offers wireless charging options that work with the iPhone 8, and that “might work with the iPhone 8 Plus.” The caveat is due to the size of the iPhone 8 Plus, which might not fit in the space allowed for the chargers in some car models.
In addition to those manufacturers, Apple also lists several specific GM models vehicles that offer wireless charging options compatible with the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The possible iPhone 8 Plus size issue may also apply to these models.
The Cupertino firm notes the implementations of wireless charging in 2017 and earlier models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC do not meet the requirements for Qi certification. These models do not work with iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
Apple recommends making sure your iPhone 8 Plus will fit in any vehicle’s charger before making a final vehicle buying decision.
