KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the supply of key iPhone X Face ID components is now “stable,” and that Apple will stick with the current version of the technology for the 2018 iPhone.
In a research note seen by AppleInsider Kuo believes that prognostications of a lower-spec TrueDepth system with hybrid glass and plastic lenses in a late 2018 iPhone are inaccurate. The analyst believes that Apple will stick with the existing technology with no increase or decrease in sensitivity or accuracy.
Kuo says that the supply of components required to include Face ID on the iPhone X and future models are “now stable, leaving no need to switch to other solutions.”
Kuo has previously predicted that Apple will push its advantage over other handset makers by integrating Face ID and its related TrueDepth camera system into all 2018 iPhone models. The technology would completely replace the current Touch ID authentication system found in other iPhone models. Kuo also has said he believes the TrueDepth system will be a feature of the 2018 iPad lineup.
