Kuo: Apple Watch Series 3 Design to Remain Unchanged, LTE and Non-LTE Models to be Available

Well-connected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has offered his predictions about the next-generation Apple Watch. Kuo says that the third-generation Watch will be offered in both LTE and non-LTE models, and will retain the same general outward design as previous models.

Apple Watch Series 2 Models

Kuo went on to say the Apple Watch will continue to be offered in two sizes, 38mm and 42mm. He also says the new Watch won’t support 3G connections, only LTE. That could limit the areas in which the new Apple Watch would be sold.

Kuo’s remarks come a little over a week following Bloomberg’s report that the new Apple Watch would include the LTE connectivity option. While some reports, such as this one from Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, claimed the new model would also feature a redesigned form factor, Kuo nixes that. (Gruber did note that he wouldn’t bet the house on a new design.)

Bloomberg’s report say all four major wireless carriers in the U.S. (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon) will offer the third-generation wearable when it debuts.

Kuo expects Apple to ship between 17.5 and 18 million Apple Watches this year, with 8 to 9 million of that being made up of the new models. He see fewer than half that number to be LTE models, with only 35 to 40% of the third-generation models sold as including LTE connectivity.

It is widely expected that Apple will debut the new Apple Watch models alongside the new iPhones at a media event in September.
