Plex on Thursday announced the addition of a Live TV feature to their iOS app. The new feature allows Plex Pass subscribers using antennas to access local shows to watch those shows as they air, and record them via the existing DVR feature.
Viewers must have a compatible tuner, Plex said, but the list has been expanded beyond HDHomeRun models to include ones from brands like Hauppauge and AVerMedia. Live streaming is limited to the company’s apps for iPhone/iPad and Android TV, which can now browse a program guide and manage recordings as well. More platforms are promised in the future.
Plex also announced an improved DVR engine, allowing users to watch and record at the same time. The improved engine also handles overlapping recordings on the same channel. The company says while most U.S. networks are supported, the technology doesn’t currently allow accessing of encrypted channels.

The Plex app requires a connection to a PC or Mac running Plex Media Server. Users can subscribe to Plex Pass for $4.99 per month, or $39.99 per year. A $119.00 lifetime subscription is also available. For more information, visit the Plex website.
