The iOS 11 beta makes it easy-as-pie (mmmm… pie!) to share your Wi-Fi hotspot’s password with other devices, allowing them to login to the network without needing to type an overly complicated (or embarrassing) password into the device.
When a nearby device running iOS 11 attempts to connect to your password-protected Wi-Fi network through Settings → Wi-Fi, a new message informs the owner they can now request access to the network.
iOS 11 device users simply need to hold their device near an unlocked iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or even a Mac that is running macOS High Sierra, that is already connected to the wireless hotspot. A Wi-Fi sharing “card” will pop up on the device that is already connected, prompting them to send the password.
The connected device will then wirelessly send the network password to the other device, allowing it to quickly and securely connect to the Wi-Fi network in question. The device requesting the password never actually sees the network password. The feature uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth proximity information to perform its task.
It should be noted that this is the first beta of iOS 11, and things can change greatly between now and September, when the upcoming operating system is expected to be released to the public.
