The iOS 11 beta is now available for anyone who is interested in giving it a try before it is released to the public later this year. While we don’t suggest installing the beta iOS on your daily driver device, if you have a spare iOS device laying around, it might be fun to take it for a spin.
First, you need one of the following devices to be able to try the iOS 11 public beta. If your device isn’t listed here, it is not compatible, and the installation will not work:
Before installing any iOS update, but especially a beta update, always have a good backup of your device. Apple recommends backing it up via iTunes.
1.) From the iOS device you want to use the beta on, open Safari and visit Apple’s public beta website.
2.) Tap the “Sign Up” button. Sign in with your Apple ID.
3.) Tap the “Accept” button you’ll see in the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
4.) Tap the “iOS” tab.
5.) Tap the “Enroll your iOS device” link.
6.) Tap the “Download profile” button.
7.) When the “Install Profile” page loads, tap “Install” in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
8.) Tap “Install” on the “Consent” page.
9.) Tap the “Install” button you’ll see at the bottom of the page.
10.) Tap “Restart” to reboot your iOS device.
11.) After the reboot, go to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Software Update” and you should see the words “Checking for Update.” Once your device finds the update, tap the “Download and Install” button.
12.) Tap “Agree” on the Terms and Conditions page. The download process will begin.
13.) Once the download has completed, tap the “Install Now” button to begin the installation.
While his may seem like a long drawn out process, it shouldn’t take more than a half an hour or so, depending on the speed of your internet connection and the specs of the device you’re installing iOS 11 on. While it won’t take long, we don’t recommend attempting the installation on your coffee break or lunch hour.
