Apple Pay

You Can Now Pay for Your Peanuts and Cracker Jack with Apple Pay at 5 MLB Stadiums

If you buy your usual hot dog, beer, or other overpriced concession while you’re watching the Colorado Rockies, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, or New York Yankees, you can now pay using Apple Pay.

MacRumors:

Los Angeles company Appetize today announced it has launched its modern point-of-sale solution at five Major League Baseball stadiums, including Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Comerica Park in Detroit, Coors Field in Denver, Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, and Yankee Stadium in New York City.

Some of the above ballparks already accepted Apple Pay here and there, but Appetize’s announcement means you can use Apple’s payments solution at concession stands, team merchandise stands, and more. The new NFC-compatible terminals will also accept Chip-and-PIN cards, as well as Masterpass, if that’s how you roll.

Waiters in the park will also be using Appetize’s iPad mini-based handheld point-of-sale for ordering and delivery to your seat. (Likely not available in the bleachers or other “cheap seats.”)

The company already had its Apple Pay solution installed in Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Fenway Park in Boston, and Citi Field in New York City.

Apple’s contactless payments system works with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus; all Apple Watches; iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2, and both iPad Pro models. Macs are the latest addition to the compatibility list, as they can now use Apple Pay as of the debut of macOS Sierra.

Adding Your Credit or Debit Card to Apple Pay

Users heading out to the ballpark can add their credit or debit card to Apple Pay, by doing the following:

  • iPhone users running iOS 9 can go to the Wallet app and tap the “+” icon in the upper right-hand corner to begin, and then just follow the prompts. Users of iPads with Touch ID can add a card to the service to use in apps by going into “Settings” -> “Wallet & Apple Pay” to add a card there.
  • Apple Watch users will need to enter the Watch app on their iPhone, Tap on the “Wallet & Apple Pay” option, and then tap the “Add Credit or Debit Card” option.
