Apple updated its website on Wednesday to reflect what it say are U.S. job creation numbers for the company in 2016. The company claims it created a total of 2 million jobs across the 50 states of the union.
Two million U.S. jobs. And counting.
The numbers tell the story. Apple is one of the biggest job creators in the United States, responsible for two million jobs in all 50 states. Last year, we spent over $50 billion with more than 9,000 U.S. suppliers and manufacturers. Since we launched the App Store in 2008, U.S. developers have earned over $16 billion in App Store sales worldwide. And we’re just getting started.
Apple says it created around 90,000 supplier and manufacturer jobs, bringing the total number of those jobs up to 450,000 jobs, up from 361,000 in 2015. The number of folks directly employed by the iPhone maker rose to 80,000 in 2016, up from 76,000 the year before.
29 U.S. cities are home to at least 250 Apple employees, 44 states are home to at least one Apple Store. The Cupertino firm says it has seen a 28x increase in employment outside of its home state of California since the year 2000.
The company says 1,530,000 U.S. jobs can be linked to its App Store, that’s 130,000 more than in 2015. U.S. developers have earned $16 billion from sales since the 2008 launch of the App Store.
The updated website comes on the same day Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the Cupertino firm is creating a new $1 billion fund for advanced manufacturing in the U.S.
