Google has rolled out their new YouTube TV streaming service to five cities in the United States. The search giant is luring subscribers to the $35 per month service with the offer of a free Chromecast streaming device.
The service, announced in February, is now available in five major markets, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area. You will have to be physically located in one of those areas to sign up for the service and gain access to the YouTube TV lineup of channels. The service notes that this is due to licensing restriction by content owners.
If you are outside the five areas, you can register your email address with Google to be notified when the service becomes available in other markets.
Google will ship a free Chromecast to YouTube TV subscribers when they pay their first month’s fee, after their 30-day free trial has expired. Participants have to redeem the offer within 30 days of payment. Shipping is free, and the offer is only available while supplies last.
Currently YouTube TV is only available on iOS and Android devices, as well as the Chromecast, and televisions with Chromecast functionality built-in. Up to six accounts can be created under one subscription, with up to three streams viewable at once.
The base $35 package includes channels from ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, Bravo, Syfy, and ESPN. Also included are channels from AMC, BBC America, and IFC. Showtime is available for an extra charge.
The service offers subscribers access to a cloud DVR, as well as viewing recommendations via a system that uses Google’s AI. For more information about YouTube TV, visit the new streaming service’s website.
