Apple on Wednesday debuted a refreshed webpage for its “Home” app, which includes a new 45-second video ad showing off what users can do using the HomeKit ecosystem.
With the Home app, you can easily and securely control all your HomeKit accessories. Ask Siri to turn off the lights from your iPhone. See who’s at the front door on your iPad. And even control things remotely with the help of Apple TV. The Home app makes all your connected devices work harder — and smarter — for you.
Apple’s has divided up the information on the new webpage into clearly defined sections:
The new video focuses on a young woman who uses Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem in a number of ways as she goes through her day. As the woman wakes up, she tells Siri “Good morning,” and Siri replies that her home is ready for the day, as lights turn on and window shades open.
The woman then opens the Home app on her device, tapping the “Breakfast Time” scene. This starts her coffee maker via a smartplug, and adjusts the home’s thermostat for a more pleasing temperature. Once she’s ready for the day, she leaves home and taps the “Lock Up” scene in the app, locking her door, and turning off selected items in the house.
At the end of her workday, she returns home, tapping the “I’m Home” scene, which unlocks the door, and turns selected items on. Later, she tells her Apple TV “It’s movie time,” via her Siri Remote, which dims the lights and closes the shades.
At the end of the day, she taps the “Lights Out” scene, turning off everything excepting a lamp next to her bed, where she reads a book on her iPad. Finally, she taps the “Good Night” scene in Home, which turns off the lamp so she can go to sleep.
The new ad does a great job of showing the what Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem can do in a home. It does so without going into great detail. The ad is currently available for viewing only at the Apple website.
