Apple has updated its list of wireless carrier support and features to indicate a number of carriers that now support Wi-Fi Calling and/or VoLTE functionality. U.S. Wireless carrier Verizon is now listed as supporting Wi-Fi Calling, as of Monday’s iOS 10.3 release.
Wi-Fi Calling allows placing a call via a Wi-Fi connection when the local cellular coverage is insufficient. VoLTE offers a wide-band, higher-quality phone call. Limitations apply by device and region. (VoLTE is only available on iPhone 6 and later devices.)
Users should be prompted for a carrier settings update on their device if their device and carrier support the new features.
