A firmware update for Apple’s wireless “AirPods” earbuds is reportedly being pushed to connected iPhones this morning. The update is said to bring “miscellaneous bug fixes” to the earbuds.
Apple AirPods firmware 3.5.1 is available for users now, and in all likelihood, has already been downloaded to a synchronized device. Installation is automatic when the AirPods are in their charging case, the case is plugged into a charger, and the linked iPhone is in close proximity and connected to Wi-Fi.
Owners of the wireless earbuds can check to see if the new firmware has been installed by going to “Settings” -> “General” -> “About” -> “AirPods.”
The AppleInsider report says a “contact within Apple” told them the update contains “miscellaneous minor bug fixes.” It isn’t known if the update helps reduce or eliminate an issue reported by owners that their earbuds exhibit connectivity issues with their iPhones during phone calls. The issue appears to be limited to users with an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. A number of users report the issue disappeared after they upgraded their device to an iPhone 7.
Apple last week released the first beta seed of iOS 10.3 to developers, which includes a “Find My AirPods” tool, to help users locate their lost earbuds.
