A report from the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN), claims the third-generation Apple Watch will look the same as previous models, but will feature improved battery life and offer faster performance.
The report says the new Apple Watch will debut in the third quarter of 2017, and will be assembled by Quanta Computer, the same firm responsible for building the first and second-generation models of the popular wearable. Quanta has declined to comment on what it calls “market speculation.”
Citing market observers with knowledge of Quanta’s plans, EDN says the new Watch won’t feature any new health sensors, but will instead focus on a longer life battery, and better performance, powered by a new Apple S-Series chip.
As usual, reports like these should be treated as hearsay, and we won’t know anything for sure until Apple officially announces its plans for the updated wearables. Rumors prior to the release of the Apple Watch Series 2 indicated Apple would be including LTE wireless data support in the new model of the Watch, but that rumor proved wrong, as it was said currently technology limitations ruled out that feature.
The original Apple Watch was announced in September 2014, and hit shelves in April 2015. The wearable quickly became the top-selling smartwatch, and continues to dominate the smartwatch space to this day.
