Apple’s TV app for iOS devices and Apple TV is finally gaining the ability to directly stream content from Netflix, but some limitations are said to exist. The feature is slowly rolling out to users.
While a Siri search for content would previously bring up a Netflix movie, commanding a device to play the title would redirect users to the Netflix app and require the users to select the title. Now, following a search, the movie streams automatically from Netflix, the same as it does from other subscription services like HBO Go.
The publication notes that Netflix movies will still not appear in the recommended titles list for users in the TV app, and it won’t allow queuing of Netflix-exclusive content. Title art in the “Up Next” queue is said to be hit or miss, with no apparent pattern as to what displays and what doesn’t.
The TV app was released alongside Apple’s iOS 10.2 update and is intended to make discovery of video content easier across the multiple sources that are available via iOS and Apple TV apps.
