Apple has remembered iconic civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today with a full-page spread on its website. While Sunday marked the actual birthday of Dr. King, the federal holiday commemorating his birth is celebrated today.
Apple’s website offers a photo of a pensive Dr. King and also includes a quote from the slain civil rights leader: “Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.”
Apple CEO Tim Cook also honored King, tweeting a photo of King, accompanied by a message saying, “We honor #MLK by working to help achieve justice and equality. ‘We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.'”
Dr. King was an American Baptist minister and activist who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. King would have celebrated his 88th birthday on Sunday.
