Apple has made it easier for iPhone 6s owners to check if their device is eligible for the free battery replacement program the company launched two weeks ago. Apple began replacing the batteries of a small number of iPhone 6s handsets, made in the September to October 2015 timeframe, that unexpectedly shutdown during normal use.
MacRumors notes that an updated page for the iPhone 6s program now includes an option to enter a serial number to determine whether an iPhone 6s is eligible for a free battery replacement. It’s a quick and easy way to see if your device is eligible for the program.
Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015.
If your iPhone is eligible, you will be able to have the device’s battery replaced at no charge. Make sure your device is in good working order otherwise. Cracked screens and such will have to be repaired at cost to the owner before the battery can be replaced.
If your iPhone is eligible, visit an Apple retail store, and authorized Apple Service Provider, or call Apple Support to initiate the repairs. If you’ve already paid to have the battery replaces, you’re eligible to receive a refund for the repair costs.
