The wireless in-ear headphone business is proving a tough mistress for Apple, as a new report indicates their new BeatsX earphones will be significantly delayed. That would mean Apple is 0 for 2 in bringing wireless headphones to market on time. The company’s new AirPod earphones are also believed to be delayed until next year.
While the BeatsX in-ear Bluetooth headphones page on Apple’s website still shows a “coming this Fall” date, Fall ends on December 20, which means the Cupertino firm has a mere 8 days to make the self-imposed deadline. However, a B&H email to a customer who had ordered a set of BeatsX headphones indicates the new ear pods won’t ship for another 2 to 3 months. (Via MacRumors)
This email is being sent in regards to your order for 1 of the Beats by Dr. Dre BeatsX In-Ear Headphones (Black).
We regret to inform you that the manufacturer has informed us that they still do not know when they will begin shipping this item but they do know that it will take at least 2-3 months. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this delay has caused you.
While Apple could be planning to offer only a limited amount of BeatsX ear phones via its own website and retail stores in the next week or so, forcing resellers to wait, 2 to 3 months sounds like a delay caused by more than just a limited quantity of units.
Apple has also run into delays with their wireless AirPods headphones, with a report last week suggesting the delay was caused by a design flaw rather than manufacturing issues.
