Apple on Thursday seeded the first public betas of both iOS 10.2.1 and macOS Sierra 10.12.3 to their public beta testers, just one day after seeding both new releases to developers.
Registered public beta testers will receive the seed over-the-air on devices that have the proper configuration profile installed. (If you’re a public beta tester, you’ll know what that means.)
At this point, we don’t know what new features, if any, are included in the first beta of iOS 10.2.1, but as a minor 10.2.X update, we likely shouldn’t expect much more than bug fixes and performance enhancements. There probably won’t be much in the way of visible feature changes or additions.
The first beta of macOS Sierra 10.12.3 is available to public beta testers via the “Update” tab in the Mac App Store on Macs that have the proper testing certificate installed. (Again, if you’re a public beta tester, you’ll know what that means.)
At this point, we don’t know what new features and improvements are included in the new update. Apple’s official release notes merely say the new beta “improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac.” We’ll let you know in this space if we learn anything new.
Mac and iOS users who’d like to take part in Apple’s beta testing program can sign up to participate via the beta testing website. Users can gain access to both iOS and macOS Sierra betas at the site. It should be noted that betas are not stable and can include many bugs and incompatibilities, so they should only be installed on a secondary device, and not your daily driver.
