Apple has revamped its service scheduling process, and now allows customers to make appointments with Apple Authorized Service Centers as well as the Genius Bar in Apple Stores.
Abandoning the Apple Store-only approach, service appointments with authorized service providers can now be made online for iPhones, Macs, and iPads. Users can now select from all repair centers nearby, in the “bring in for repair” step of the check-in process.
The site lists the repair locations sorted by either distance, or earliest possible appointment. Third-party repair shops can many time offer an earlier appointment than Apple’s own Genius Bars. Some third-party Specialists listed don’t offer availability information, so users will need to call the shop for more information.
In addition to independent Apple Specialists, the list includes Best Buy, Microcenter, and other well-known repair options. Third-party repair shops can often offer repairs Apple can’t, such as installing larger drives, servicing older model devices that Apple no longer touches, and more.
AppleInsider notes if you need service for an Apple TV or Apple Watch, you’re still limited to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.
