Apple is preparing for the debut of Single Sign-on alongside the release of tvOS 10.1 and iOS 10.2 later this month by adding a new App Store area that lists apps that support the new feature. (Available only to beta testers.)
The apps are categorized by supported TV providers, including DirecTV, Dish, Sling TV, Hotwire, and GVTC.
If you are a Dish Network satellite TV subscriber, for example, you can sign in once with your Dish username and password to start using any of the following apps, among others: Watch Cooking Channel, Watch DIY, Watch Travel Channel, Hallmark Channel Everywhere, and Watch Food Network.
Beta testers report when opening an app that supports Single Sign-on in the iOS 10.2 beta, a pop-up alert asks if you “want to allow XYZ to use your sign in credentials.” If you choose not to, you can sign in and authenticate with a cable or satellite provider username and password.
Fourth-generation Apple TV users with the current tvOS 10.1 beta installed can access Single Sign-on by going to “Settings” -> “Accounts” -> “TV Provider.” iOS 10.2 beta users can access Single Sign-on by going to “Settings” -> “TV Provider.”
Single Sign-on is scheduled to debut alongside the public release of iOS 10.2 and tvOS 10.1, later this month. The new feature will allow U.S. cable and satellite customers to access all live cable or satellite app content by signing in once with their customer credentials.
